Current Freshman Research Scholars

Congratulations on your selection to the Freshman Research Scholars Program (FRS) and welcome to your first chance to engage in research at Oklahoma State University! We hope this early introduction to university research will both challenge and inspire you. Throughout the year you will have the unique opportunity to meet like-minded scholars and learn from the most innovative researchers on campus. Your experience and some requirements may vary by college, but the general requirements are outlined here.

Program Overview & Expectations

Freshman Research Scholars will be enrolled in a fall course that guides them through university-level research. Inform your advisor of your FRS status and select a faculty mentor to assist you with your research project. You’ll submit a Progress Report at the end of the fall, outlining your experience and spring plans, with your mentor confirming your arrangement through a Mentor Agreement.

In the spring, you'll present your research at the Freshman Research Scholars Symposium on April 17, 2025, and submit a final Program Evaluation by May 2, 2025.

Research Compliance and Future Opportunities

Throughout the year, check your OSU email for updates and opportunities. You’ll also need to complete an online Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) tutorial, and if your research involves human subjects, submit your plan to the Institutional Review Board (IRB).

As an FRS, you gain an early introduction to research at OSU, which offers further opportunities like the Wentz, Niblack, and McNair Scholars programs. This is your first step on a rewarding path of discovery.
