Academic Forgiveness
Repeated Courses
An undergraduate student may repeat up to four courses (totaling up to 18 hours) of "D" or "F" and have only the second grade (even if it is lower) included in the calculation of the overall GPA. The original course and grade remain on the transcript and are noted with an "E," indicating exclusion from the overall GPA. If a student repeats a course more than once, only the first "D" or "F" is excluded from the overall GPA. All other repeated courses, those in excess of the 18-hour, four-course maximum and those with a grade of "C" or better in the original course, are included in the grade-point averages. For repeat grade designations or additional transcript information, please visit https://registrar.okstate.edu/transcripts/official_transcript_details.html.
Academic Reprieve
Academic Reprieve allows an undergraduate student who has had poor academic performance in the past to request that one semester or two consecutive semesters be "reprieved" and not included in the calculation of the overall GPA if all of the following apply:
- At least three years have passed between the semester(s) in question and the reprieve request
- Have earned at least 12 credit hours in regularly graded course work since the semester(s) in question
- Earned no grade lower than a "C" in any subsequent courses since the semester(s) in question
- Have a current GPA of at least 2.0
- No reprieve or renewal previously granted
Before Submitting an academic reprieve petition, please check to ensure you meet the criteria listed above. Petitions should be signed by your academic advisor and the Director of Student Academic Services. Petitions that meet the criteria are reviewed by a committee. Reprieved semesters remain on the transcript but are noted with an * indicating exclusion from the overall GPA. If the student passed a course during a reprieved semester, the course may be used to fulfill content requirements, but the credits will not apply toward graduate requirements.
