As a music conductor, Z. Randall Stroope has conducted in 22 countries, including 11 times for mass at the Vatican. He is the Artistic Director for two international summer music festivals in Europe, and in this country, has conducted 38 times at Carnegie Hall and 17 times at Chicago Orchestra Hall. Under his direction, ensembles from the Michael and Anne Greenwood School of Music have done performing arts tours in France, England, Germany, Italy, Austria and the Czech Republic. Having composed 190 works for orchestra, vocal solo, chorus, wind ensemble and other mediums, he has sold over four million copies of music internationally, and received commissions for new musical works from many prestigious entities, such as West Point Military Academy and many universities and arts organizations. At OSU, he has received the Distinguished Research Award, College of Arts and Sciences Faculty Mentor Award, Doug and Nickie Burns Endowed Chair in Choral Music, and the 2018 Eminent Faculty Award. He is a strong advocate for music education, and spends a great deal of time with young musicians in secondary schools.
