Regents Professor of Plant and Soil Sciences

2004

Bill Raun is a Regents Professor of plant and soil sciences at Oklahoma State University. He also holds the Sitlington Chair in Agriculture in DASNR.  From 1985 to 1991 he worked with CIMMYT in Guatemala and Mexico as a Regional Maize Agronomist where he serviced 9 countries in Central America and the Caribbean. His research has focused primarily on improving nitrogen use efficiency in cereal crops working in tandem with mechanical and electrical engineers. Their team of plant and engineering scientists has collaborative sensor based projects in Argentina, Mexico, India, China, Australia, Canada, and Kenya. Also, they now have 29 on-line, functional sensor based N rate algorithms that are being used worldwide for corn, wheat, canola, sorghum, bermudagrass, and cotton. Bill is a Fellow of the American Society of Agronomy, and Soil Science Society of America. He received B.S. and M.S. degrees from Oklahoma State University (1979 and 1982) and a Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska in 1985.
