John Mintmire is a computational materials physicist whose research has focused on computational simulations in materials chemistry and physics, with specific emphasis on large-scale atomistic simulations of the electronic and structural properties of low-dimensional materials. His work on carbon nanotubes predicted many of the properties later measured for these materials. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry.
