Shida Henneberry


Regents Professor of Agricultural Economics

Dr. Shida Rastegari Henneberry is a Regents Professor of Agricultural Economics and serves as the director of the Master of International Agriculture Program (MIAP) at Oklahoma State University (OSU). She is also inaugural holder of the Humphreys Endowed Chair in International Studies at OSU. Shida received her B.S. degree in Economics from the National University of Iran and MS and PhD degrees in Economics from Iowa State University. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California-Davis.

Dr. Henneberry has established a nationally and internationally recognized record of global education in the areas of agricultural market development, food demand and nutrition analysis, international trade, food security, and effective pedagogy; with over 100 publications in these areas and another 100 selected, invited, and keynote speeches. She has taken a holistic approach to her teaching, bringing her research into her lectures, and conducting research on teaching. She was the first in OSU’s Agricultural Economics department to develop online courses. Over three decades of working in the academics, Dr. Henneberry has served as the major advisor to over 180 Master’s and 20 PhD students, in addition to mentoring 36 visiting scholars. Her advisees hold prominent positions in academia, private, non-profit, and government sectors, in the US and abroad.

One of her most impactful accomplishments has been the creation of a Master’s degree in International Agriculture (MIAP), which, with a record enrollment in the fall of 2015, became the largest graduate degree program in Agriculture at OSU. She designed the MIAP curriculum and courses, and continues to run the program.

Dr. Henneberry’s successful research, teaching, and outreach programs have earned her several prestigious and national awards. She was recently named the 2015 Fellow of the Western Agricultural Economics Association (WAEA), and she received the 2014 National Excellence in Teaching Award from the American Public and Land Grant Universities, the most prestigious US teaching award in agricultural fields. She has received the International Education Faculty Excellence Award and the American Agricultural Economics Association’s Distinguished Graduate Teaching Award. Dr. Henneberry was the commencement speaker at OSU’s 2012 Graduate College Ceremonies. Among her other honors: Outstanding School of Intl Studies Faculty Award, Jack Everly Journal Article Award from the N. American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture, Honorary Initiate of Phi Beta Dalta Honor Society for International Scholars, Outstanding Oklahoma Educator, WAEA Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award, OSU Merrick Foundation Teaching Award, Aggie-X Teaching and Advising awards and OSU recognition of leadership. In 2011 she was granted the lifetime honorary title of Regents Professor.
