Ziad El Rassi is an analytical chemist focusing on separation sciences, and recognized internationally for his work in several areas of modern liquid phase separation techniques including high performance liquid chromatography, capillary electrophoresis and capillary electrochromatography. He is known for his strong contributions to the developments of bio-separation methods of general use in the life sciences. Since he joined OSU in 1988, twenty-nine students earned the MS and Ph.D., six post-doctoral fellows studied in his research group and 10 undergraduate students were trained in research. He published more than 165 papers in peer-reviewed journals and 18 book chapters. He edited two books on carbohydrate analysis by modern separation techniques and authored a booklet on capillary electrophoresis of carbohydrates and glycoconjugates. He is the Editor-In-Chief of the international journal ELECTROPHOIRESIS since 2004, and was previously a deputy editor for the same journal from 1993-2003. He presided the Sigma Xi Chapter at OSU in 2008-2009, and was the chair of two consecutive International Symposia on Electro- and Liquid Phase Separations Techniques in 2010 and 2012. At OSU he received the Sigma XI Award in research, the Regents Distinguished Research Award, the 2006 Oklahoma Scientist of the Year from the Oklahoma Academy of Sciences and the 2007 Oklahoma Chemist of the Year from the American Chemical Society, Oklahoma Pentasectional.
