John M. Chaney is a Clinical Psychologist, with specialty emphasis in Pediatric Psychology.
He is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association. Dr. Chaney’s primary area
of research focuses on the examination of cognitive determinants of psychological
adjustment across a range of both adult and pediatric chronic medical illnesses. A
secondary line of research involves investigations examining the social cognitive
implications of Native American sports mascots. His experimental studies in this area
are among only a handful of their kind in the empirical literature. Since 1997, Dr.
Chaney has been the Director of the “American Indians Into Psychology” program at
OSU, which has produced more Native American Ph.D.’s in Psychology than any other
university in the country. He also serves as the Director of OSU’s Center for American
Indian Studies.
