Timothy S. Murphy earned his PhD in English at UCLA in 1994, and taught there and at the University of Oklahoma for 18 years before coming to Oklahoma State University in 2013 to take up the Houston-Truax-Wentz Professorship in English. His research ranges from contemporary fiction and science fiction to musical improvisation, and from political philosophy to science studies. His books includeWising Up the Marks: The Amodern William Burroughs(1998),Antonio Negri: Modernity and the Multitude(2012), edited collectionsThe Philosophy of Antonio Negrivolumes 1 and 2 (2005-2007), and translations of Negri’s booksSubversive Spinoza(2004),Books for Burning(2005),Trilogy of Resistance(2011) andFlower of the Desert(2015). His other publications include over thirty peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on modern and contemporary American and European literature, contemporary music, metaphysics and philosophy of science, and radical politics; over twenty article translations from French and Italian; and seven guest-edited special issues of scholarly journals in literary studies and critical theory. He was general editor of the scholarly journalGenre: Forms of Discourse and Culturefrom 2000 to 2013, and currently serves on the editorial boards ofAngelaki: Journal of the Theoretical Humanitiesand the Thinking|Media book series published by Bloomsbury.
