Dr. Yanqi Wu is a Regents Professor and holds the Meibergen Family Professorship in plant breeding in Plant and Soil Sciences Department at Oklahoma State University. His research is centered on developing new cultivars and investigating genetic and genomic mechanisms for important agronomic traits in bermudagrass used for turf and forage, and switchgrass for bioenergy. He was awarded with 5 US patents. He received 33 grants with >$7.9M for his program in a total of >$44M funded. His turf bermudagrass cultivars ‘Latitude 36’ and ‘NorthBridge’ released in 2010 are produced on 38 sod farms in 17 US states and four other countries and used in 26 US states and five continents (North America, South America, Europe, Africa, and Asia). ‘Latitude 36’ has been selected as a standard cultivar in the 2013-17 and 2019-2023 National Turfgrass Evaluation Program Bermudagrass National Tests. His turf bermudagrass cultivar ‘Tahoma 31’ released in 2017 is produced on 45 sod farms in the US, Japan, Spain, Italy, Turkey, Australia, and China. Dr. Wu authored and coauthored 90 refereed journal articles, nine book chapters and one book. He was granted the 2010 Early Career Award by National Plant Breeders Association, the 2017 Tengtou Agricultural Science Award by American Society of Agronomy, and the 2018 Breeder’s Cup Award by Turfgrass Breeders Association.
