Jason Lavery earned his Ph.D. in History at Yale University in 1997 and has taught at Oklahoma State University since the fall semester of 1997. Since 2010 he has held the title of Docent (Permanent Adjunct Professor) in the Church History of Finland and Scandinavia at Helsinki University. He has published in the history of sixteenth-century Scandinavia and Germany, as well as the history of Finland. His books are Germany’s Northern Challenge: The Holy Roman Empire and the Scandinavian Struggle for the Baltic 1563-1576 (2002), The History of Finland (2006), and Reforming Finland: The Diocese of Turku in the Age of Gustav Vasa 1523-1560 (2017). He has also published numerous peer-reviewed articles and has been involved in editing several editions of articles. He served as president of the Society for the Advancement of Scandinavian Study 2009-2011. He has won grants from among other granting agencies Fulbright, the American Philosophical Association, the Academy of Finland, and the American-Scandinavian Foundation. He has served as a peer reviewer for several journals and granting agencies.
